Experts from these presidential plantations\, including Highland executive director Sara Bon-Harper\, will speak about what life was like for the field workers\, blacksmiths\, carpenters\, and house workers\, who kept these plantations running while living within a dehumanizing and brutal system. Their perspectives and stories present a more complete American history\,  and highlight the lives of those who have been long relegated to obscurity.  The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Justene Hill Edwards\, a UVA professor whose research focuses on the history of slavery in the United States.
